Look your best on camera in the MIT Sloan Teaching Studio. Follow our tips to choose an outfit that flatters you on camera and avoids common wardrobe pitfalls.
Tip: Consider bringing two different outfits or multiple options for accessories (e.g., scarves) to the studio so you can choose your favorite once you’re in front of the camera.
Choose Your Outfit
Follow these guidelines to choose an outfit that will help you look polished and camera-ready in the Teaching Studio.
- Wear solid color clothing. (You can wear a simple pattern if you’re wearing a jacket over it.)
- Pick clothes that accommodate a clip-on microphone. You’ll need a neckline or lapel for the clip-on microphone and a back pants pocket or belt for the microphone hardware.
- Be camera-ready from your head to your knees. It’s important to wear a top and bottoms that can appear on camera. (Your shoes won’t be visible.)
- Wear makeup, if desired. Face powder can help prevent shine under the studio lights.
What NOT to wear in the Teaching Studio
Steer clear of these wardrobe pitfalls so you can look your best on camera in the Teaching Studio.
- Don’t wear all black, all white, or the same color as your studio slides. The background is likely to appear black or white in your video. Wearing a different color will help you stand out.
- Avoid wearing red or green. Both can create problems against a green screen.
- Don’t wear busy patterns like high-contrast stripes, plaids, or polka-dots. On camera, these prints can be distracting or cause odd visual effects.
- Make sure your clothing doesn’t include visible labels, logos, or text. Our editing process involves flipping the video horizontally. That means any text that’s visible on your clothing will appear backwards in the final video.
